In a cold winter night at around 2.00 am , my sound sleep was again disturbed by loud noises. I got up and saw Cadet S.I Lalit saikia entering quickly from the corridor leading the washroom and toilet.. Bhoot...bhoot (ghost).. .. He hurriedly got into his bed.. From there he said that he actually went to the loo. But as soon as he sat down,, there were immense vibrations and strange sounds from underneath the commode. He simply ran away from there. As i said earlier the conditions of the toilets were pathetic. There were no lights not even the sockets. Only moonlight is available. So the question of locking the door from inside does not arise at night.. Those who woke up that night listened to lalit and dismissed it by saying that it may be the effect of excess alcohol that lalit consumes every evening. We soon went to sleep.. At around 0245 am i was again woken up by sabir.. Sabir heard some strange sound from behind the toilets .
I thought it might be the sound of big fishes fighting for food . There is a big fishery behind the toilets. Soon the dark night was over. By morning as we were having tea , we heard someone shouting. It was the voice of Havildar Bora whom we call chulai. He was very fond of chulai, a locally made liquor which is very cheap and is readily available.. He was searching for his jersey cow which has not returned home since last evening. We told him we have not seen Buli , his cow. He was still searching. He searched behind the barracks but there was no sign of Buli. Havildar Bora sat on a trunk tired of searching from last night. He was wondering where might his cow have gone..He suddenly stood up with a brightness in his face. He did not check behind the toilets. His cow often grazed on the bank of the fishery behind the toilets. There is a big septic tank at the back of the toilets. The pipes connected to the septic tank were broken at different places . The by products from the toilets freely flowed to the fishery And that was the secret of the unusually big sizes of the fishes. Havildar Bora reached the back of the toilet. We followed him. The cover of the safety tank was broken . As we stood on the tank we got all the answers . Lalit and Sabir were right. The ghost was there in the tank itself. Actually the cow had fallen into the tank last night. The Cow was barely breathing. Only the nose with yellow patches was visible.. It took the whole day in recovering the cow from the tank. It was immediately taken to veterinary hospital for treatment. If you enjoyed reading this post.... please consider leaving a comment.. Thanks
What an interesting character Sulai Bora was!I often wonder how easy it was to manage him. He was easily managable for ten bucks:-)
