Mischief with dummy rifles.

Prior to providing rifle shooting training we were given bamboos in place of original rifles. The bamboos were of the same size as that of the rifles. We were made to run several KMs with the dummy rifles in our hands. We were instructed to treat the dummy rifles as original rifle. If someone dropped the dummy rifle he was made to run through the parade ground. One day during afternoon parade, we were standing in three line formation. Ridip was standing in front of me. I was in the middle line. Suddenly playfulness and mischief came to my mind. I slowly pushed the bamboo that Ridip was holding. Ridip lost the grip and the bamboo fell to the ground. Ridip quickly looked around him and picked up his ba mboo. He turned back and asked who did this. Every one kept silent and hold their laugh. No body answered him, this made Ridip angry and before turning back he uttered some slang words. This challenged me even more. I again pushed his bamboo, this time a bit harderThe bamboo hit the ground with a bang. Ridip quickly picked up his bamboo. This time the parade instructor saw him pick up the bamboo. He came near us, said to Ridip that you don't even have the strength to hold a bamboo. How will you hold a real rifle. Next time if I see your bamboo fall I will make you run the whole field. And saying this he moved away from us. This made Ridip very angry. He hurled his bamboo towards his back. The bamboo flew like a boomrang and hit the leg of Anuj Phukan. It hit him below his knee with a great force. Anuj immediately sat down and held his wound tightly , he was in severe pain. Tears were rolling from his eyes and he was furious. Anuj picked up his bamboo and was ready to break the attackers head into two. Some of our mates were abetting him. Anuj used to wear high power spectacles. During field training he never wore it. Some how he came to know that it was Ridip. He rushed to hit his head with the bamboo from behind. Seeing no other option I quickly Jumped between him and Ridip. I caught hold of his bamboo. If i was a second late, Ridip's head would have been broken into two. I grabbed Anuj and tried to pacify him. Two more cadets came and held him tightly. We took Anuj to our barrack which was around 60 meters away from the parade ground. I was trying to pacify him as I was the main culprit. I told him the truth. He said he was not angry with Ridip or me anymore. He just want to quit this job and the training. As he spoke he opened his attache and started to pack his belongings. I apologized to him on behalf of Ridip and me. He kept telling me , he was not angry with us though his pace deicted the picture of angry birds.
In the mean time Ridip arrived, I explained everything and handed my tube of Volini to him. I told him to say sorry to Anuj and apply the cream to his wound. Ridip did exactly as I said. Anuj at last cancelled his decision of quitting his job. The next day Ridip and Anuj were asked to explain why did they showed indiscipline conduct in the parade ground. They explained everything. They were asked who started this. They did not reveal my name. They were awarded extra duty for 1 month.

  7. Reminds me of our 2km trip with back pack rifle and all. We weren't given bamboo replicas though. Little bit of naughtiness is fun, glad it didn't turn too serious.
